US based tech giant Apple has recalled some of its Beats Pill XL portable wireless speakers due to a fire hazard that is caused by overheating of the batteries. The company is all set to recall 222,000 speakers in the United States. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said that it will also be recalling 11,000 in Canada.
The CPSC in a statement said that Apple has so far received eight reports of overheating speakers. So far the company has not disclosed the number of speakers that are affected by the recall or the number of complaints they have received. Apple assured that the recall has not affected any other Beats or Apple products.
The company has also assured that it will be issuing store credit or a refund worth $325 within three weeks of receiving the ffaulty speakers. The products were introduced by beats in November 2013. In May 2014, Apple had agreed to buy Beats for about $3 billion as it tried to jump-start in a venture in music streaming as iTunes sales were declining.
This is not the first time Apple was trying to recall its products. Apple had launched an iPhone replacement program in August 2014 after it admitted that the smartphones sold between September 2012 and January 2013 had faulty batteries.
