Popular camera manufacturing giant, Nikon on August 22, 2012 unveiled its new Coolpix P7700 advanced compact camera, which is an update to the P7100. The new camera has been housed in an all-magnesium chassis and features a 12.2 megapixel camera CMOS sensor.

The other features of the camera include brighter zoom optics F2 at the wide end and F4 at the telephoto end and a 920k dot and 3 inch fully articulated screen. Nikon has also incorporated the image stabilization in the form of its proprietary Vibration Reduction mode which reduces camera shake and gives sharper images in low light conditions.

The Nikon Coolpix camera is also capable of capturing full resolution images at a speedy 8 frames per second. The P7700 also does a high speed continuous shooting at an impressive 120 fps at 1,280 x 960 resolution.

While talking in terms of the specifications of the new Nikon, it seems like the camera offers useful but the most incremental upgrades. But Nikon today lags behind in the advanced compact camera market in front of the other brands like Sony Cyber Shot and Canon which offer cleaner images and better low light performance. Nikon also announced its new Coolpix S800c Android based camera which has a 16 mega pixel camera backside illuminated CMOS sensor.
