For the first time the Raspberry Pi computer is being manufactured in the UK. Earlier each and every credit card sized machines were manufactured at the production lines at the Chinese factory.
But now after a deal signed between Premier Farnell which distributes the Pi and the manufacturer Sony will see 300,000 of the gadgets produced on the home soil. The product has been hugely popular since its launch in the month of April.
The makers of the gadget said that about a million of the product could be sold before the end of 2012. The UK made Raspberry Pis will be assembled at the Sony UK Technology’s factory in Pencoed, South Wales.
Due to the deal it is expected that about 30 jobs could be created which will mean most of the Pis being distributed by Premier Farnell will be made in Britain. The Raspberry Pi UK production started in the mid of August and began being delivered to the customers this week. Pi board made in the Welsh plant have ‘Made In the UK’ printed next to the power jack. The news about the manufacture comes as the design of the machine gets an overhaul. The changes have been made on the basis of the suggestions of the Pi users.
