Electronics manufacturer HTC Corp has announced that its first virtual reality headset, the HTC Vive is all set to be commercially launch in April 2016. Just before the announcement, it was speculated for a long time that HTC would launch the new virtual reality headset by the end of 2015 so that the company gets the advantage of the holiday season rush.
HTC in an official blog announced, “In an effort to clear up speculation and misinformation surrounding the launch of HTC Vive this month we are excited to give the community an update on the status of HTC Vive”. The company added that they will begin the New Year by making additional 7,000 units available for the developers followed by commercial availability in April 2016.
The new HTC Vive was showed off at the Mobile World Congress show in March and was developed jointly with the video game supplier Valve. The headset was made available for the developers and features tracked controllers that allow the wearers to inspect objects from every possible angle.
On the other hand HTC has invested more than NT$300 million in WEVR which is a VR content developer in the United States. The company has also said that it will hold a developer conference, the HTC Vive Unbound in Beijing on December 18, 2015.
