Sunglasses are worn during the day and usually have only one purpose, which is to protect our eyes from the Sun. With this in mind, the majority of people probably could not imagine that a pair of sunglasses could be turned into a smartphone charger. An US-based Indian designer has managed to create a pair of sunglasses which could be turned into a smartphone charging device.

The designer added solar panels to the sunglasses which help in charging smartphones. The Ray-Ban Shama Shades by Sayalee Kaluskar are part of a project which was conducted at Miami Ad School – San Francisco. Every arm of the unusual shades will have a solar panel and this is apparently sufficient to charge a smartphone when it gets dark.

Reports said that the designer Kaluskar placed small solar panels on each side of the frame and this allows the sunglasses to grab solar energy during daytime. At night, the frames can be detached from the sunglasses and can be used for charging the smartphone.

Along with Kaluskar, Ramiro Ramirez also worked on the project as part of their student work. According to experts, people are keen on using solar energy in order to charge their smartphones while on the go. These days, it has become a major issue to charge a smartphone when there are no sources available.
