Two brand new digital apps have been introduced by the New York Times, as the popular daily newspaper is looking to expand its subscription offerings in order to attract more readers to pay for its products. The new apps will be available from April 2, 2014 and will cater to both ends of the price spectrum.

A selection of stories will be offered by NYT Now from the New York Times and other online sources at a price of $8 every four weeks. There is also a premier version of the app – which is known as the Times Premier – and will offer readers a complete access to all content of the popular newspaper, with some additional features like behind-the-scenes access to newsroom and that will be priced at $45 every four weeks.

Moreover, home-delivery subscribers will have to shell out additional $10 every four weeks. On a monthly basis, anyone can access up to ten articles for free, but must pay to subscribe to further browse the content. Chief executive of the New York Times, Mark Thompson said, “Our goal with this next phase of our paid product strategy is to satisfy the demand for Times journalism by giving new subscribers the ability to choose the amount of access they desire at a price point that suits them”.

Digital subscriptions have also become a significant source of revenue ever since the newspaper first launched the digital pay model three years back.
