An import ban has been ordered by the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) on some Samsung products on August 9, 2013. The ban states that they infringe two patents of the US tech giant Apple. The commission explained that the South Korean company infringes two Apple patents in its older smartphones and tablets.
Due to this reason, it has been ordered that the products in question must be barred from US shelves. So far, it has not been revealed or mentioned which products the ban has been referred to, but the list of banned products is most likely going to include the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The commission released a statement which said, “The Commission has determined that the appropriate remedy is a limited exclusion order prohibiting Samsung from importing certain electronic digital media devices that infringe one or more of claims 1, 4-6, 10, and 17-20 of the ‘949 patent and claims 1-4 and 8 of the ‘501 patent.” However, this cannot be considered as bad news for Samsung, as the commission has ruled in favor of Samsung for four other patents.
The company is still not happy with the decision of ITC, saying that the proper focus for the smartphone industry is not a global war in the courts.
