Toy and juvenile products retailer Toys R Us on September 10, 2012 said that they will be launching its own tablet designed for children. The retailer said that it will be sold exclusively sold at its stores as the world’s largest retailer gears up to compete online.

The toy maker said that the tablet will be called as Tabeo and will be sold for $ 149.00. The tablet will be loaded with child friendly apps and integrated controls which will allow the parents to customize the levels of internet access for each family member.

Toys R Us was taken by private in the year 2005 by KKR and Co, Bain Capital and Vornado Reality Trust in a $ 6.6 billion deal. The company will be facing a tough competition to the already popular Amazon.com Target Corp, and Walmart Stores inc which sells toys at lower prices.

The Tabeo will be having a 7 inch multi touch screen with Wi FI capability, 4 GB flash memory, and will come free with 50 free pre installed apps aimed for children. Even Educational toymaker LeapFrog also has a tablet for children known as the LeapPad. Last week Amazon had launched its new Kindle Fire tablet while Apple is already working on a smaller version of iPad.
