Chinese handset maker Xiaomi will soon be launching its online store in Europe but will not be selling its handsets at the initial stages. Xiaomi handsets, have already become popular in the Asian countries and the company is now expanding its wings to the global countries.
Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s global vice president during the Mobile World Congress said, “It’s going to be a different Mi.com experience from what we have in our markets in Asia, because we’re not selling phones”. It has also been specified that no specific Europe has been chosen and that no timeline has been mentioned about the launch.
Xiaomi has taken a similar step that it took in the US, and has also promised to maintain the pricing of the devices at the same level as its Chinese store. Barra added that the they are going to sell a small number of their popular accessories things like the Mi Band , in-ear headphones , studio grade headphones and also the most popular power banks.
However no reason has been given for why it not be selling phones in the European countries. Experts have opined that it might not be taking an extra step due to its patent issues that it is facing these days. Xiaomi sells its smartphone directly to its customers in China. In India the company sells its handsets through the online portal Flipkart.
