Walmart slashes iPhone 5S and 5C prices.
Online retail giant Walmart has announced discounts on Apple iPhone’s 5S and the 5C. The company has stated that discount offered is a permanent price change. The iPhone 5C 16 GB version which has a plastic exterior can be bought at $29 – as opposed to the earlier price of $49 – in a two-year contract.
When compared to the Apple store prices, the 16 GB version is priced at $99 with a two year contract. Meanwhile the iPhone 5S now costs $99 at Walmart which is a from the previous $149 price tag. The customers need to sign up a contract for any of the devices with Sprint, AT & T and Verizon. However, it must be noted that this scheme is only available at Walmart stores and not online.
On being asked about the company’s sudden decision to offer such heavy discounts, the Walmart spokesperson said that they are just providing their customers with the technology that they are looking for. Analyst Brian Colello said that this is a typical slow sales time for the iPhone as rumours about the much awaited iPhone 6 are doing the rounds; iPhone users might thus prefer to wait for the next generation device.
