Social networking giant Facebook has made another important acquisition of the popular fitness app Moves. The application is an activity tracking app which has more than 4 million downloads in its name.
The application has been developed by a Finnish startup ProtoGeo and runs on the background of the user’s phone with the help of location data to make a profile of the activities throughout the day. The recent move has been described as a surprise hit by Apple after it was launched in 2013 and has been downloaded 4 million times. The news was announced by ProtoGeo on its blog which said, “Today, we’re delighted to announce that Facebook has acquired our company and the Moves app”.
The blog by the company added that since the launch they have been focusing on running a simple activity diary that millions of people have enjoyed using. The company will now be joining the talented team of Facebook to work on building and improving the products and services which has a shared mission supporting simple and efficient tools.
It was also added that ProtoGeo will continue to operate as a standalone app and added that they were no plans to commingle data with the social network.
