Gaming enthusiasts who are waiting for the upcoming release of Microsoft’s Xbox One get to hear something new about the device every day. Unfortunately, not every news regarding the highly-anticipated next-gen console is good and recent reports have claimed that the Xbox One can reboot automatically when it receives an OS upgrade from the cloud.
Moreover, the reset can happen even in the middle of the game. The latest news came from John Bruno, the Microsoft’s Xbox One Lead Program Manager on November 5, 2013, during a GDC Next presentation known as “On Demand Compute: Power For Games”. The details unveiled are still not entirely clear, but if the problem actually exists, then gamers might face some problems.
This might persist especially when consoles are pushed to update automatically by the cloud. However, statements from Bruno are ambiguous and fail to represent a full picture of the problem. Bruno said, “Once in a while, rather frequently actually, the host OS will require an update, meaning the physical machine is going to get rebooted, whether your code is running or not”.
However, he is still not clear on how frequent the problem will appear or how widespread the issue will be. Apart from the problem, the developer said that the ‘Xbox Live Compute’ system has been in development for 18 months and that it is difficult to sell it to some publishers.
