Biggest online movie database, Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has joined hands with ticket seller Fandango in order to allow users to find movies at local theaters and purchase tickets for particular show times. The recent update was issued on July 15, 2013 for the Internet Movie Database’s iOS and Android apps, which allows users to find movies at their local theaters.
The new app will be competing with Fandango’s app and will also allow popular movie ticket buying app to handle the transaction in the same way Apple’s iOS 6.1 does. For now, the IMDb’s ticket purchase update is available in the US market only. The app will also allow the purchase of movies and TV shows on Blu-ray and DVD through Amazon Mobile.
This is not a surprising collaboration, considering that Amazon owns IMDb. Moreover, users will have to have the Amazon Mobile app installed on their devices in order to complete the purchase. The update is promising expanded bios on celebrities and has a ‘Coming Soon’ button which will allow fans to save an upcoming movie’s release date to a personal calendar.
The partnership also expanded the reach of Fandango, which sells tickets to about 20,000 screens across the nation.
