US based hard disk drive manufacturer, WD has brought something new and innovative portable hard drive concept. The company has announced a new series of portable external hard drives for Macs and Windows PCs known as the My Passport Edge which is ultra sleek and ultra slim.

There is a very minor difference between the Mac Version and the Windows version of the new drive. Both versions of the new drive support USB 3.0 and are bus powered which means the user needs a single standard USB cable for the drive to work.

Both the devices are as thin as a traditional internal laptop hard drive measuring 9.5 mm. The device has been made slim with the ultraslim type of internal hard drive which is just 7 mm thick.

WD has said that the My Passport Edge series for Mac has been specifically designed to compliment Apple’s portable computers MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. It has an all aluminium exterior which makes it look good and also protects the drive from drops and bumps. The company has also said that the Windows version of My Passport Edge has a premium finish plastic cover and includes WD SmartWare software which is capable of continuous and automatic backup.
