The Starwood Hotels chain has announced that the group would be offering keyless entry to its customers at 10 of its hotels. This will be made possible through an app that would run on smartphones. The app will run on Bluetooth enabled iPhones and Android smartphones. The Starwood Hotels group owns more than 1100 hotels around the world.

However, this feature will only be rolled out at 10 of its hotels in the United States. The first hotels to get this will be Aloft, Element and W next year. The app will be free on the App Store and Play Store and will be called Starwood Preferred Guest app. Guests will not need the regular magnetic stripe key cards to enter their room.

With advancement in technology comes apprehensions and Starwood is ready to take on that challenge. They have promised great security measures to make sure that no one can misuse the feature and have devised a mechanism that can wipe out digital data in case a phone is stolen. In this effort, the hotel chain has partnered with smart lock company Assa Abloy.

This is not the first time that a hotel has offered this feature. Previously, the Hilton hotels has offered guests keyless entry via their smartphones. The best part about keyless entry is that one does not need to go to the front desk to get their keys.
