Christmas 2014 saw US tech giant Apple dominating the gifting sector as its products became the most popular tech gifts of 2014. About millions of new devices were activated on Christmas Day and accounted for 51.3 percent of the new devices. The new devices were activated between December 19-25 and was way above Samsung with just 17.7 percent share.

 

Finnish company Nokia was in the third place with 5.8 percent with Sony and LG at 1.6 percent and 1.4 percent respectively. Moreover, people who were eager to try new devices downloaded about 2.5 times as many apps on December 25, 2014 compared to another regular day in the same month.

Some of the popular downloads included messaging apps and games.The year 2014 has been one of the most successful year for Apple as it saw the launch of the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September after which it also launched the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 in October,2014. Moreover, Apple’s share in the smartphone market in UK reached a new high with the strong sales of the new handsets.

The hike was reflected across Europe, where the iOS of Apple accounts for 15.4 percent of the smartphones which are sold.
