Sony launches Xperia Z3 and a fleet of new devices at IFA

Sony’s fleet of new devices includes Xperia Z3 smartphone, a smart watch and a fitness wearable called SmartBand Talk.

Sony has launched a string of new devices at the IFA Berlin consumer electronics show that started on September 3, 2014. In its armory, Sony now has updated editions of the Xperia Z2 smartphone, an 8-inch Xperia Z3 tablet, an Android Wear smart watch and a new wearable device called SmartBand Talk.

The star of the Sony gadgets launched is the Sony Xperia Z3, its new flagship Android smartphone. The Japanese tech giant only talked about the features of the phone, but gave no details on its launch and pricing.

Here are the highlights of Sony’s Xperia Z3:

  • Slimmer than its predecessor, the Xperia Z2
  • 1080 x 1920 display and a 5.2 inch screen
  • Walkman Radio
  • PlayStation 4 Remote play – the phone can turn into a PlayStation 4 controller.
  • Front Camera – 2.2 megapixel, Rear Camera – 20.7 megapixel
  • Android v4.4 KitKat with a Sony user interface

Among the other devices launched by Sony at the IFA includes a wearable fitness device that Sony likes to call SmartBand Talk. The gadget is to be worn on the wrist and it tracks everyday activities like climbing stairs, distance walked and sleep. Along with this, the SmartBand Talk can also make and receive phone calls.

SmartWatch 3 is Sony’s updated smart watch which will be the first one to run the Android Wear operating system. The smart watch will come with a price tag of 229 Euros ($301).
