In recent times, more and more people are turning to mobile and it has been predicted that for the first time ever, tablet shipments will top PC shipments in the fourth quarter of 2013 and will continue to excel in the upcoming years. Several new tablets were announced over the last couple of days and the data shows that tablet shipments will soon surpass those of personal computers.
Bob O’Donnell, the vice president of IDC clients and displays program said, “The device world has seen several iterations of cannibalization impacting different categories, with the last few years focused on tablets cannibalizing PC sales”. When it comes to numbers, tablet shipments are expected to reach 84.1 million units in the fourth quarter, while PC shipments will be 83.1 million. The shipment of PCs are expected to drop by 10 percent for the entire 2013.
It has also been predicted by IDC that people will continue to buy top-of-the-line tablets, but cheaper models will overpower the market in the near future. Research analyst Megha Saini said that at a time when the smartphone and tablet markets are showing early signs of saturation, the emergence of lower-priced devices will be a game changer.
Tablets have recently come a long way and many have speedy processors with razor-sharp HD screens and numerous apps. Even the tablet market competition has become fiercely saturated with a whole host of new devices.
