Google begins YouTube comedy week in India


A company official from the search engine giant Google said that the company is trying to further strengthen the content pipeline of its video service YouTube, in order to make it a daily habit. So far, the video sharing site has about 55 million unique visitors every month and 40 percent of them use the service on their mobile phones.

Gautam Anand, the YouTube Asia Pacific director for content partnerships said, “The way people consume content has changed dramatically. We are building a platform for the next set of subscribers. We have partnerships with various broadcasters and content providers for movies and TV shows (both new and archived)”. Anand went on to say that they intend to make YouTube a regular habit for subscribers to consume content online.

After the US and Britain, YouTube is now all set to launch ‘Comedy Week’ in Mumbai. Anand stated that this is part of their marketing strategy and as of September 12, 2103, they will play more than 400 hours of comedy content from their channel Mumbai. This will also include content from Bollywood and TV shows like ‘Great Indian Laughter Challenge’, ‘Kahani Comedy Circus Ki’ and ‘MTV Bakra’. He went on to say that there will also be regional language comedy content in Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi and Malayalam.
