For the first time ever, the Microsoft’s Office software package is becoming available for the iPhone on Friday, June 14, 2013. It will offer users the ability to read and edit their text documents, slide presentations and spreadsheets, whether they are at the doctor’s office or at a baseball game. However, the company is not making the iPad version and is also not offering the app on Android devices.
The US-based software giant is trying to make the $100-a-year Office subscription more compelling, without erasing the advantage which the tablet computers that run Windows system have. It has the ability to run most popular Office programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The best part is that the Office Mobile for iPhone is available for free through Apple’s App Sore, but an Office 365 subscription requires to use it.
The subscription allows users to use Office on up to five Mac and Windows computers if the annual fee is paid. A subscription can become more expensive than buying the package for just one or two computers. The iPhone version will not be sold separately for users who decline the recurring fee.
The company has also been promoting subscriptions as a way to encourage its customers to keep paying for a product which has been previously sold in a single purchase.
