Take-Two Interactive – the game distributor and the company behind the developer Rockstar Games – has revealed that their highly popular Grand Theft Auto V – also known as GTA 5 – is the best-selling game of 2013. During the third financial quarter earnings call on February 3, 2014, the company revealed that it managed to sell 32.5 million units of the game in 2013.
The figures made GTA 5 the best-selling video game of 2013. However, the firm did not disclose if the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3 version was the most popular one. Due to these sales figures, Take-Two Interactive stated that the company’s revenues increased to $767 million in the financial third quarter, which is up from $405 million during the same quarter of the previous year.
The sales of GTA 5 and Take-Two Interactive’s revenues are most likely going to continue to grow throughout 2014. The firm is yet to release the next-gen versions of GTA 5 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. There are rumors that the game is likely to appear in the UK market by June 2014.
Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive said, “Take-Two’s business continued to outperform expectations significantly during the fiscal third quarter.” Zelnick went on to say that the results were generated due to a huge demand during holiday season for the Grand Theft Auto V.
