PS4 release date in Japan to be announced at Tokyo Game Show

Recent reports have said that a Japanese release date for Sony’s PlayStation 4 will possibly be announced at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2013. The information regarding the announcement of the release date was given by Sony UK managing director Fergal Gara.

While talking about the launch plans for Sony’s PS4, Gara said that he had not been informed of a final Japanese release date, but that might be one of the points which will get covered at the Tokyo Game Show. He said, “[A Japanese release date] wasn’t specifically mentioned [during Sony’s Gamescom press conference]”.

He went on to say that since it is a European show, a lot of time was spent on talking about the initial launch territories in Europe and how it is going against what was announced at E3. The much-awaited Tokyo Game Show is scheduled to run from September 19 to September 22, 2013. Earlier, all PlayStation consoles were first launched in Japan before they were rolled out to the rest of the world.

Even the original PlayStation was launched in Japan in December 1994. The Japanese launch happened nine months before the console was launched in any other part of the world. The PS2 was launched in Japan in March 2000, seven months before it was launched anywhere else.
